Homemade Play "Dough"

What you will need:

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2  1/2 tsp cream of tartar 
1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 cups cold water
Food coloring 


Wooden cutting board
Plastic baggie or container
Medium Saucepan


Mix It Up
Flour, Salt, Oil, Cream of Tartar, &  Water

Cook It Up: 
over medium heat –  uncovered about 5 min
 
Consistence will become like mashed potatoes when ready to remove from heat

Cool It Down:
Let cool enough to be handled
 

Now for the fun part!  Let the kids help! 
 

Divide dough into 4 portions

Add 6-8 drops of coloring into each portion

Mush It Up:
Knead color into dough to distribute evenly

Store in plastic baggie or airtight container


** For less mess add dough to a baggie with
color drops, remove air, seal, and let the kids squish and knead until color is combined.

Salt Dough Hand Ornament

What you will need:
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1/4 cup water
Marker for outline
Paints for face and hat Sealer
Ribbon for hanging

Mix It Up:
Add all ingredients to mixing bowl

Smush It Up:
Knead until dough forms (add a little extra water if needed to form dough ball)

High Five:
Make hand impression

Cut It Up:
Cut around hand print with knife to make a boarder

Hang It Up:
Poke a hole in the top for hanging
(before baking - a straw or toothpick work well)

Cook It Up:
Bake at 200 degrees for 3 hours

Cool It Down:
Cool completely

Finish It Up:
Paint
Seal
Hang
