The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. Isaiah 40:8 ESV
We study God's word together on Sundays at 9 a.m. before the worship service. Here's why:
God's word is His gift to us, a love letter to His people. Sometimes that truth is enough to inspire us to pick it up daily and dwell in the comfort of its pages. Other times it's not. 9 a.m. on Sundays is a set time where God's word is open in front of our faces and we can hear from Him.
Reading the Bible is confusing sometimes but He wants us to do it anyway. What does this mean? How does this apply? Asking questions isn't just good, it's necessary. It is one way the Holy Spirit works in our hearts. Wrestling with those questions takes time, so at Bible study we bring our questions to God and each other.
We are all learning together. We all have stuff to learn (even those people with theology degrees) and the learning is made richer by the insights and experiences of the community around us. So we share with each other in a spirit of love, full of the grace and truth only Jesus brings.
Oh, and the devil hates it. It's a bonus reason. Wanna know why? Read Ephesians 6:10-20. The word of God is the sword of the Spirit, and we get to carry it.
So come on in! We will be in the fellowship hall; smiles, hearts, and Bibles wide open.
Other cool passages about the power of God's Word: Isaiah 40:8; Psalm 18:30; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; Luke 8:21;
Matthew 4:4; John 1:14
